Donegal star Michael Murphy hailed the “character” of his young team mates after yesterday’s thrilling Ulster SFC final win over Armagh in Clones.

Murphy was named ‘Man of the Match’ as Jim McGuinness’s side edged the All-Ireland champions by 2-23 to 0-28 in extra time to retain the coveted Anglo-Celt Cup.

Speaking to BBC Sport NI afterwards, the 2012 All-Ireland winning captain spoke of how fortunate he was to be asked back by McGuinness after having hung up his boots in 2022.

"I didn't think it would happen again," Murphy stated.

"It happened last year; I was a Donegal man supporting these boys last year and I was happy to watch them here last year.

"Today was a really tough game, nothing but respect for Armagh they are the All-Ireland champions and they're a good side, but credit to these young lads and their character, it's an honour to share a pitch and a dressing room with them again, I'm very blessed that they asked me back."
